Helena Deland – “Aix”
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Helena Deland makes immersive, emotive songs that are unflinchingly intimate. Deland began writing and recording solo, but now she fronts a quartet. The additional members have helped to expand her sound, making it as unpredictable as it is infectious.
She gearing up to release her Drawing Room EP, and her latest offering is “Aix,” a rhythmic, guitar-driven jam that leans psychedelic as warped layers and subtle drums envelope Deland’s gauzy, penetrating vocal. She sings of the myriad emotions that come with embarking on a shared life with someone you love, cutting through the surrounding soundscape with an understated but piercing, poetic quality to her lyrics. Listen.
Drawing Room is out soon.
