Queens Street To Be Named After Phife Dawg
This morning, less than six months after Phife Dawg’s death at 45, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a bill to immortalize the rapper on a street in Queens, New York. According to the New York Daily News, a portion of Linden Boulevard at 192nd Street in St. Albans, Queens, is being co-named “Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Way” to honor the late A Tribe Called Quest co-founder. As for what “co-naming” a street entails, Gothamist reports that an additional street sign bearing Phife’s name will placed underneath the current sign at the intersection of 192nd and Linden. The street held a great significance to Phife, with Linden being name-checked in the opening lines of tracks like “Check The Rhime” and “Steve Biko.” Stream them both below.
