Shazam Is Getting A TV Game Show
Shazam has been trying to brand itself as more than just a song-identifier app for a quite some time, and now the service is taking a step toward broadening its image. FOX has ordered a season of the show Beat Shazam, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Since the end of American Idol, FOX has been looking for a new unscripted music show to fill that void, and Beat Shazam is being sold as an interactive musical game show from FOX Television Group Chairman Mark Burnett and its CEO Dana Walden. Contestants will compete to identify a particular song as quickly as possible, much in the same way the Shazam app helps users find out the title, artists, and other info about a track. Those who advance past the rounds competing with other contestants will then have to go up against the app for the top prize in a classic man vs. technology scenario. The producer of the short-lived Don’t Forget The Lyrics, Jeff Apploff, will handle production duties along with Burnett. No air date has been set as of yet.
