Son Little – “State Trooper” (Bruce Springsteen Cover)
The soulful Philly troubadour Son Little has been relatively quiet since dropping his self-titled album last year, but he’s broken a year’s silence with a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska favorite “State Trooper.” Little has infused the Boss’ chooglin’ 1982 original with a slow-building, old-school R&B energy that ratchets up suddenly with his gravelly rasp wailing and pleading. It’s a tall order to cover the Boss, but Little did his thing. Listen to the rework and Spingsteen’s original below.
