The Cool Kids – “Running Man” (Feat. Maxo Kream)
The Cool Kids — the rap duo made up of Chuck Inglish and Sir Michael Rocks (fka Mikey Rocks) — are back in full effect. Inglish took to Twitter back in July to announce the reunion in a string of sentimental tweets saying he “felt incomplete” and he “needed to bring this back for our sanity.” Rocks simply tweeted “IM READY” in response. They were early to hop on the retro hype, but they never quite capitalized on their foresight and momentum due to label disputes and the long delay for their debut, When Fish Ride Bicycles, in 2011. And though they linked for a handful of one-offs in 2013 and 2014, they ended up calling it quits.
All of that is in the past now, and they’re working on their new album, Special Edition Grand Master Deluxe. The duo’s first track since coming back together is “Running Man,” assisted by Houston’s Maxo Kream. It’s not clear whether or not it will be on the album, but it’s clearly a warning shot that this reunion is serious. It’s probably the hardest track they’ve ever done, with eerie synths and trap leanings backing up some clever tough talk and braggadocio. So yeah, the Cool Kids back, and they’re in pretty good shape. Listen.
If Inglish’s newfound motivation is any indicator, Special Edition Grand Master Deluxe will be out soon, but there is no set release date as of yet.
