The Mr. T Experience – “Cinthya (With A Y)”
In the ’80s and ’90s, the great Berkeley punk rock band the Mr. T Experience helped develop a caustic, self-deprecating, melodically sweet form of pop-punk, one that really helped shape the way ’90s punk would sound. MTX were great songwriters, and their whole starry-eyed, lovelorn Buddy Holly thing remains enormously appealing. But it’s been a while since they released any music. The band’s last album was 2004’s Yesterday Rules, and frontman Frank Porter, who usually records as Dr. Frank, switched things up, publishing the bestselling (and pretty great) young adult novel King Dork in 2006. But to celebrate the impending paperback release of the King Dork sequel King Dork Approximately, Portman has gotten his old band back together. They’ve recorded a companion album to the new book, and it’ll come with a digital download if you buy the book. (A standalone release will come later.) The lead single is a chunky, fast, catchy new rager called “Cinthya (With A Y),” and you can hear it below, via PunkNews.
The paperback edition of King Dork Approximately is out 10/4.
