With his last album, 2015’s Beauty Behind The Madness, the Weeknd reinvented himself as a full-on pop star. Two songs from that album topped the Billboard charts last summer, and he spent the rest of the year headlining festivals and touring arenas — a pretty amazing step up for someone who started out singing over Beach House instrumentals on online-only mixtapes a few years earlier. So it’s a big deal that the Weeknd wiped his Instagram clean yesterday and, today, posted a single image: The cover for a new album, apparently titled Starboy, that was shot by the great music-video director Nabil. We don’t know anything else about the new album right now. Things like release dates, tracklists, and collaborators are a complete mystery. But that is a great album cover, a great album title, and a great new haircut, so we’re off to a good start.
