Röyksopp – “Never Ever” (Feat. Susanne Sundfør) Video
A few weeks ago, the Norwegian production duo Röyksopp teamed up with singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfør for the new single “Never Ever,” a bright and sticky piece of cheesed-out disco euphoria. Röyksopp themselves directed the song’s brand-new music video, which pushes schtick overload to Tim & Eric levels. In front of a bright, twisting multicolored backdrop and a woman’s face, we see a troupe of performers in various forms of ’70s garb, as wel as one Daft Punk-esque robot. It’s all very silly and cartoonish, and you can watch it and read a statement from the group below.
Röyksopp member Svein Berge says:
We have, in the past, tended to go for a bit of a somber sentiment in our videos, pristine imagery with a hint of darkness. But we wanted to turn that around this time, and make something raw, shabby and messy but predominantly light-hearted. At the core lies a reaction to the current paradigm of selfies & social media, where a flattering facade, overshadowing substance seems to be not only the accepted norm, but something to strive for. There are way too many artists that fuel this notion that one has to be both rich, delinquent, successful & sexy, all at the same time. We thought it refreshing to counter that and hence we’ve gone off on a different tangent for this video. It’s not completely unflattering, but it’s quite unflattering.
The “Never Ever” single is out now on Astralwerks.
