Australian band Pure Moods have no affiliation with the popular series of New Age compilations, but they do share ties with fellow Melbourne rocker Courtney Barnett. And although their version of indie rock is more languid and melodious than the playful sing-talking we’ve come to expect from Barnett, they do share her knack for storytelling: On the latest single from their self-titled debut album, Adam Madric, Wyatt Knowles, Alex Lashlie have drawn inspiration from the tragic and inexplicable death of college student Elisa Lam. After watching the viral YouTube video, I became a little obsessed with the phenomenon that was the disappearance of Elisa Lam. I have always been, and still am pretty into paranormal mysteries. This one is a real doozy though, it completely freaked me out.

So, I wrote a song about it. I have always wondered if it is somehow insensitive or sadistic to write a song about the tragic death of an innocent tourist, but my intentions were pure. It’s one of my favourites on the record too. You can kinda bang your head to the break, which is cool.
