Prince’s Pet Doves Went Silent After He Died
Earlier this week, the Today show sent Al Roker to Prince’s Paisley Park compound, just ahead of the place opening up for public tours for the first time ever. There was so much to process in that Today segment that we somehow missed a fascinating bit of trivia. Prince apparently had two pet doves, who had the amazingly Prince-ly names Majesty and Divinity. And according to Prince’s sister, the doves stopped singing after the man died.
Here’s how Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson tells the story, per Vanity Fair: “After he passed, they weren’t talking. It didn’t feel the same… So when I first came in [to Paisley Park after Prince’s death], I was like, ‘Where’s the doves? What’s going on?’ [His staff] said, ‘They’re up there. They’re just not talking.’ I said, ‘Well you need to play some Prince music.’”
If you believe Nelson, the doves started making noise again once they heard the music. This whole story could definitely be bullshit, but wouldn’t you rather believe that Prince was a magical human being whose presence controlled the emotions of birds?
