Alex Trebek Calls Nerdcore Rappers “Losers”
Beef!!! It’s what’s for content.
Last night on Jeopardy! contestant Susan Cole said she was a fan of “nerdcore” rap during her introductory interview. Cole described the subgenre as “people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love” and host Alex Trebek quickly wisecracked, “losers, in other words.”
Yoooooooo, Alex Trebek is the coldest dude in the game, lololololol. I'm dying laughing. @DragonflyJonez @LaJethroJenkins pic.twitter.com/IwI85r83zY

As expected, nerdcore purveyors weren’t to happy about it, and sought to defend their honor in a rare moment of spotlight. mc chris, a self-described nerdcore rapper offered a statement to Billboard in response to Trebek’s quip:
Nerdcore is a genre that has been around for at least 15 years. I’m in my tenth year of touring, and my latest album MC Chris Is Dreaming peaked at #2 on the Billboard comedy charts this week. It’s a small corner of the hip-hop world but it’s a real and true respite to hundreds of thousands of people that are tired of being called losers, and would rather celebrate their nerdiness instead of trying to conform to society’s mandates.
Another nerd MC, Mega Ran, who is currently on tour with mc chris and fellow geek MC Lars, took to Twitter to air out Trebek on video rhyming: “Alex Trebek, you lost a lot of respect/ I gotta check you off the rip for coming out of your neck.”

You’d expect Trebek to be a defender for all nerd-kind. After all he has hosted a freaking trivia show for over three decades now. He’s pretty much made millions off of being a nerd, but it’s too late now. He’s knee-deep in beef whether he likes it or not.
Better (pocket) protect your neck, Trebek! Oh lawd, it rubs off fast.
