NBC Developing Streaming Music Competition Series
NBC has ordered a new streaming music competition series called The Stream, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Based on the Norwegian show of the same name, the show will judge aspiring musicians based on how many streams they get.
Performers will first upload their videos to a dedicated platform, and the 100 most-streamed artists will be invited to an industry showcase, where the remaining pool will be winnowed down to a handful who will compete on a live weekly program. Streaming numbers will then be used to determine who gets eliminated and who wins the competition.
“The Stream brilliantly uses technology and social media to draw music lovers in and make them a part of the process,” says Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment’s alternative and reality group president. “We’re excited to discover talent in this modern way and connect the best artists with the industry’s top starmakers.”
