Watch Haley Bonar Cover The Crystals’ “Then He Kissed Me”
The Canadian-born, St. Paul-based Haley Bonar released Impossible Dream, an album of deeply impressive fuzz-pop, earlier this year. And more recently, while on tour in the UK, she visited Manchester’s Old Granada Studios to play a live-in studio cover of “Then He Kissed Me,” the Crystals’ Phil Spector-produced 1963 girl-group classic. It’s just a great song, and Bonar’s sleek, synthy version nails its mythic emotional resonance while switching up its arrangement. (Bonar describes it as “in the style of Joy Division.”) It’s a performance that’s well worth your time, and you can watch it below, via Brooklyn Vegan.
Impossible Dream is out now on GNDWIRE.
