Watch Shia LaBeouf’s Surprisingly Great Freestyle On Sway In The Morning
Who knew Stanley Yelnats IV could get down on the mic? If you’re not familiar with the “5 Fingers Of Death” freestyle series on Sway In The Morning, Sway gives rappers five different beats to rhyme over in succession at different tempos, forcing them to switch their flows and trip them up if they’ve written something ahead of time. Many an MC has been slapped by the “5 Fingers Of Death,” but Shia LaBeouf dismembered them.
It took LaBeouf a few bars to warm up, but once he did, he unleashed a rhyming onslaught full of multis, internal rhymes, and clever similes/metaphors over beats that Biggie Smalls, Tupac Shakur, Missy Elliott, and Snoop Dogg rhymed over first. Sample heat on the closing line: “My life is like a highlight reel/ Don’t like me, check Twitter how the zeitgeist feel/ Sway and Shade 45 is what I just killed.” To top it all off, he calls out MCs that don’t write their own rhymes, saving specific barbs for Drake (“It’s trash rapping in October”) and Lil Yachty (“Miss me with that little boat”). It’s pretty hard to be as shocked as we were earlier this week, but if you say you expected this from LaBeouf you lie like a rug. Check it out below.
