Earlier this year, South African authorities arrested Yasiin Bey, the rapper formerly known as Mos Def, when he attempted to leave South Africa carrying something called a World Passport — a document issued by the World Service Authority nonprofit, which advocates for world citizenship. South Africa, where Bey has been living for the past few years, does not recognize the World Passport as a legitimate travel document. And ever since then, Bey hasn’t been allowed to leave the country. But now Reuters reports that Bey has apologized, and South Africa has agreed to drop the charges against him.

According to Reuters, Bey will now be “declared an undesirable person,” and he won’t be allowed to return to South Africa, even though he’s been living in Cape Town since 2013. But the country also won’t be charging him with any crimes. In a statement, the government says, “[He] has unreservedly apologized to the Government of South Africa. The department is satisfied with the apology [and] will withdraw the charges against him.”
