Q-Tip Teases Another “Incarnation” Of A Tribe Called Quest
Most of us assumed that We Got It From Here… Thanks 4 Your Service, the staggering and enormously satisfying new album from A Tribe Called Quest, would be the group’s last. They did, after all, start recording it before the death of Phife Dawg, and the album does feature plenty of new Phife verses. It’s weird to think about the group continuing on without Phife. But according to Q-Tip, it appears that the group will soldier on in some form.
As The FADER points out, Q-Tip recently spoke with the BBC DJ Annie Mac about the creation of the album, and he had a quick and cryptic word about the group’s future: “Stay tuned for any other incarnation because we don’t intend on stopping. That was Phife’s M.O.: ‘This time we gotta do it and keep going.’ He’s left us with the equation of how do we do it, but we’re going to need it, and we’re going to continue.” He didn’t say anything further.
Here’s the interview:
It’s sad to think of the group without Phife, but it’s also sad to think about them stopping altogether, especially after the triumph of that last album. They’ve also teased a farewell tour, which could be great.
