Watch clipping.’s Splendor & Misery Short Film
The Los Angeles avant-rap trio clipping. have made some truly arresting music videos lately, but none of them have attempted to encapsulate the sweep of the group’s new album Splendor & Misery, a concept LP about space travel and alienation in a dark Afro-futurist dystopia. But now director Patrick Kennelly has made a short film inspired by the album, even if it swaps out the actual music from the album for an ominous industrial score. Group members William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes appear in the video, and they share the screen with wolves, shotguns, futuristic torture devices, an escaped-convict mime who foams at the mouth, and a baby in clown makeup. It is a dark and surreal vision, and you can watch it below.
Splendor & Misery is out now on Deathbomb Arc/Sub Pop.
