At Least Five Dead After Shooting At Mexico’s BPM Festival
At least five people are dead and 15 others wounded after a lone shooter opened fire at BPM Festival early this morning. The event takes place at Playa Del Carmen, a resort in the state of Quintana Roo on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, and is popular among foreign tourists. The shooting occurred outside of the Blue Parrot nightclub, and BPM organizers said that three members of their security force are among the victims. According to the Associated Press, Rodolfo Del Angel, the director of police in Quintana Roo, told Milenio TV that the shooting was the result of a disagreement between people inside the club, and security officials were killed when they tried to intervene. Festival organizers provided the following statement:
The violence began on 12th street in front of the club and three members of the BPM security team were among those whose lives were lost while trying to protect patrons inside the venue.
Three people have been detained, but it is unclear if they were involved in the shooting
