Young Fathers – “Only God Knows”
Scottish art-rap experimentalists Young Fathers are all over the soundtrack to T2 Trainspotting, the long-awaited sequel to Danny Boyle’s 1996 classic. The movie and the soundtrack both come out on Friday, and today, Young Fathers have shared “Only God Knows,” one of six songs they have in the film.
“Trainspotting, the original book is like a modern Ulysses,” Boyle says in a press release. “It’s unsurpassed I think, and reading it is still like the ‘rush of ocean to the heart.’ You’re always looking for the heartbeat of a film. For Trainspotting it was Underworld’s ?’?Born Slippy.?’? For T2 it’s Young Fathers. Their songs are my heartbeat for the film. And ?’?Only God Knows?’? is that rush again. The ocean. The heart.”
The song is a buzzing electronic punk-gospel hybrid featuring the Leith Congregational Choir, and you can hear it below.
T2 Trainspotting and its soundtrack are out 1/27.
