Stef Chura, from Detroit, sings fuzzed-out, ’90s-style indie rock in a very cool deadpan. She recorded her full-length debut Messes with Fred Thomas, and with him, she shares a certain heartfelt slapdash aesthetic. In Messes, you can hear the idea that DIY rock music can be as warm and friendly and melodic as any other kind of music.
