Klaus Dinger & preJapandorf – “Pure Energy”
Klaus Dinger was the co-founder of seminal krautrock outfit NEU!, and although he passed away in 2008, we’re still getting to hear some new music from him almost a decade later. Berlin label Grönland is putting out a previously unheard album by Dinger and the band preJapandorf for Record Store Day, recorded at the turn of the century with Kazuyuki Onouchi while working on a remix of Dinger’s La Düsseldorf album VIVA. Every track on 2000! was recorded in one take with no prior rehearsals in the spirit of capturing musical purity, although it’s impossible to tell given the fully realized execution of lead single “Pure Energy.” The song moves with a zippy, incessant vibrancy — Dinger’s alacritous guitar playing tapping into something nearly primal in its insouciant velocity. Listen and check out the album’s tracklist below.
