Lil Dicky Claims This Is The 49th Most Expensive Video Of All Time
Comedy rapper Lil Dicky’s “Pillow Talk” is a truly wild song — evolving from an awkward one-night stand conversation to an existential meditation on vegetarians, Pangaea, dinosaurs, and the existence of an almighty creator. “Pillow Talk” is supposedly Dicky’s favorite song from his debut album, Professional Rapper. Accordingly, Dicky and director Tony Yacenda went all out for the song’s video, an 11-minute short film that casts John C. Reilly as God and rapper Brain as Dicky’s animated, talking brain. There are CGI aliens, dinosaurs, and talking wolves, all amounting to reportedly the 49th most expensive video of all time, which is just mind-boggling to me given my admittedly unreliable understanding of how much music videos are supposed to cost. This thing cost $700,000, which puts it roughly between the cost of Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” and “Oops!…I Did It Again” videos. Watch the absurd visual below and try to wrap your head around just how much CGI actually costs.
Professional Rapper is out now via Commission Records.
