R.I.P. Robert Miles
The BBC reports that Robert Miles, the Italian trance DJ and producer who had a massive international hit with 1995’s “Children,” had died in Ibiza after a battle with cancer. Miles was 47.
Miles was born Roberto Concina, and he started out as a club and pirate radio DJ. His debut single “Children” topped charts around the world just as trance, the melodic and emotive house-music offshoot, was just breaking through in public consciousness. Miles went on to make a few more hits, to release five albums, and to found S:alt, his own indie label. His final album was 2011’s Th1rt3en, a sort of prog/ambient experiment that featured guests like Robert Fripp. Here’s Miles’ video for “Children.”
