Hanson Compare Justin Bieber To Venereal Disease
20 years ago, the Oklahoma kids in Hanson had a brief run as world-conquering teenpop stars, all on the back of their inescapable earworm “MMMBop.” Right now, Justin Bieber is in the midst of a long run as a world-conquering star; he’s been that way for nearly a decade. And the members of Hanson are not into it. To them, Bieber is “chlamydia of the ear.”
As News.com.au reports, Hanson were recent guests on Triple J radio, where they played a game called Whose Song Is It Anyway? The premise of the game is that guests attempt to figure out the people behind some of the day’s biggest hits, and the members of Hanson said at the beginning that they’d lose the game since they don’t listen to “anything modern.” And they were true to their word. When the hosts played “Despacito,” the Bieber/Luis Fonsi/Daddy Yankee collab that is currently the biggest song in the world, Hanson had no idea what it was.
After failing to figure out what “Despacito” was, one of the Hanson brothers said, “Can I just say I’m glad I didn’t know what that was?… I prefer not to get any venereal diseases so whenever Justin Bieber gets near me or near my ears… It’s just ear infections, they’re terrible.”
Another brother added, “It’s like hanging out with a koala… Chlamydia of the ear, it sucks.”
Three things here. First off, hanging out with a koala would obviously be delightful. Second: It’s a bit ironic to hear the members of Hanson disparaging Bieber in the same terms that people once used to disparage Hanson’s music. (People used to make such a big show about how much they hated “MMMBop, even though that song was amazing.) And third: Bieber himself might agree with Hanson about “Despacito.”
