Gordi – “Heaven I Know” Video
One incredible triumph that English photographer Eadweard Muybridge achieved was documenting motion. His photography confirmed that, for one small moment, horses remove all four hooves from the ground before gravity’s pull brings them crashing back on pavement. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter Gordi uses Muybridge’s images in her new video, directed by James Soldan, for the recent single “Heaven I Know.” She stands stationary in a room, old photographs decorating the walls, singing her reflective ballad: “‘Cause I got older, and we got tired/ Heaven I know that we tried.” Muybridge’s photos of motion break her piercing eye contact with the camera, flashing before our eyes as a reminder of gravity; they’re a reminder that we try, we fail, and we continue on still in evolution. And sometimes, after all that, a raincloud forms over your head and continues to shit on your parade. “Heaven I Know” is from Gordi’s forthcoming album Reservoir. Watch it below.
Reservoir is out 8/25 via Jagjaguwar. Pre-order it here.
