The last we heard about Deja Carr -- the monumental force behind Mal Devisa, who released Kiid, one of the best albums of 2016 -- was from her mother, who set up a GoFundMe after Carr was hospitalized and had to cancel a handful of shows. Mal Devisa started to play live again earlier this month, though, and she's just shared a new track called "You Are My Sunshine," which lives up to its title as Carr alternates between singing and rapping atop a warm and snapping beat. "Mama's on the throne, her baby's singing," Carr opens, and the song is partially an ode to her mother but her words also touch on self-assurance and music industry pressures and hazy memories. The song's intoxicating and comforting in a way that makes you want to keep it on repeat all day. Check it out below.
