When the way-out bass master Thundercat showed up to the NPR studios to record his Tiny Desk Concert, he came in purple dreads, a pink hoodie, and tiny red-and-yellow kickboxing shorts. But while Thundercat cuts an outsized figure, he's also an old-school virtuoso. During his Tiny Desk Concert, the man and his three-piece band played three tracks from the new album Drunk (including the deeply petty "Friend Zone"), and they flexed some serious soul-jazz instrumental muscle.
