Last month, Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile got together to release the dazed, casual, delightful collaborative album Lotta Sea Lice. Barnett and Vile are touring together now, and last night, they were musical guests on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. For a lot of us, this is the first time we get to see Barnett and Vile’s chemistry in a live setting, and it was truly cool to see them play interweaving guitar solos and trade off lines. On the show, they played a slightly trimmed-down version of the sprawling single “Over Everything.” And backstage at Colbert, the also did a lovely bonus web-only take on “Continental Breakfast,” with just the two of them fingerpicking acoustic guitars.
