Migos – “Stir Fry”
With Culture, the Atlanta trio Migos released one of 2017’s best rap albums. They’re planning on following it up with a new one called Culture 2, and they’ve already shared the single “Motor Sport,” which features Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. And now they’ve followed that one up with a new single called “Stir Fry.” Where “Motor Sport” was a rote retread, “Stir Fry” is loose and exceptional. Pharrell produced the track, sampling a classic organ break. (It’s the Mohawks’ “The Champ,” previously sampled on tracks like Eric B & Rakim’s “Eric B Is President,” Onyx’s “Slam,” Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes The Hotstepper,” KRS-One’s “Step Into A World (Rapture’s Delight),” and Frank Ocean’s “Nikes.”) Pharrell has given Migos a lively track that moves them away from the trap music they’ve been making. And all three rappers ping flows and melodies off of each other. Listen to “Stir Fry” below.
Culture 2 will hopefully arrive sometime next year.
