Rae Sremmurd – “Close” Video (Feat. Travis Scott)
Right now, Mississippi rap duo Rae Sremmurd are continuing their inexorable march toward the release of the forthcoming triple album Sr3mm. It’s hard to imagine that a Rae Sremmurd triple album is something that the world needs, but they’ve already shared a whole pile of advance singles, and all of them have been, at the very least, pretty good. A few of them have been exceptional. “Close” is one of those.
The Travis Scott “Close,” with its gurgling beat and its eerie sung vocal hook from Swae Lee, is a glorious piece of shimmering goth-trap. And now “Close,” like previous highlight “Powerglide” has its own nocturnal video. Director Mike Piscitelli starts things off with Travis Scott, Swae Lee, and Slim Jxmmi all spending quality time with women outside a late-night convenience store. Standard rap-video stuff. But then things take a turn.
At the risk of spoiling too much here, the “Close” video suddenly turns into a vampire movie. There are bitings and fangs and glowing eyes and unexplained levitations. It’s awesome. Piscitelli films everything with a forbidding moonlit glow, and the rappers all dial into their most seductively bloodthirsty inner selves. Check it out below.
Sr3mm is on the way, but we don’t know when it’s coming. Like a vampire attack.
