The Lemon Twigs – “The Fire”
Long Island duo the Lemon Twigs will release a new concept album later this month called Go To School. The LP doubles as a musical and it follows the band’s 2016 debut Do Hollywood. Go To School is an old school rock opera that features Todd Rundgren, and we’ve already heard singles “If You Give Enough” and “Small Victories.”
Today, the band debuted a new track titled “The Fire.” The song deals in heavy themes of bullying and violence in schools. “With any musical, you’ve gotta first believe that people breaking into song every five minutes is normal — there are no rules,” Michael D’Addario says in a press release. “You’ve gotta believe it in order to enjoy the music and absorb the weight of the lyrics. The ‘why’ is just because it gets you to the next part. It’s supposed to make you feel something. Go To School is not meant to be taken literally outside of the context of the art. It’s what they call a ‘movie for your ears,’ and this scene is called ‘The Fire.'”

Go To School is out 8/24 via 4AD.
