that dog. – “Just The Way” Video (Feat. Jack Black & Maya Rudolph)
At the end of the week, the great ’90s alt-rock band that. dog are releasing their first new album in 22 years. Anna Waronker, Tony Maxwell, and Rachel Haden recorded the upcoming Old LP, the follow-up to 1997’s Retreat From The Sun, over the last three years in Los Angeles. And they did it with a little help from their friends: Maya Rudolph, Randy Newman, Graham Coxon (Blur), Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Charlotte Caffey (the Go-Go’s), Tanya Haden, Kaitlin Wolfberg, Andrew Dost (fun.), and Steve McDonald (Redd Kross).
Maya Rudolph, an old friend of the band, also featured in a recent mini-documentary about the making of the album’s title and closing track, the second track we heard from the new album following lead single “If You Just Didn’t Do It.” And they’ve tapped her again for the video to their new song “Just The Way.”
In addition to Maya Rudolph, the “Just The Way” video has another famous face in the form of Jack Black. Directed by Casey Storm, the clip starts out as a lighthearted take on the Three’s Company opening and eventually devolves into blood and violence, because of course it does. And the song that soundtracks it is great, too, a sweet-and-sour snarl buoyed up by poppy harmonies. Watch and listen below.
Old LP is out 10/4 via UMe. Pre-order it here.
