Gia Margaret – “apathy” & “body”
Two years ago, the very talented Chicago musician Gia Margaret released her debut album, There’s Always Glimmer. She made it onto our list of the Best New Bands Of 2018, and today she’s announcing her follow-up, Mia Gargaret.
It’s an ambient instrumental album that she wrote after an illness meant that she couldn’t sing for nearly half a year. “This left me feeling like a shell of myself, so I turned to my synthesizer for comfort,” she explained. “These compositions helped me hold onto my identity as a music maker. At time, this music helped soothe my anxiety more than therapy or anything else could.”
Today, she’s sharing two tracks from it, “apathy and “body,” which are just as spell-binding as her music with words, an echo of looping synths and atmosphere. They do contain other voices, though — the first excerpts one of her vocal therapy session, while “body” has a sample from philosopher Alan Watts — and the effect feels like a contemplative collage.

Mia Gargaret is available digitally on 6/12 via Orindal Records (US) and Dalliance Recordings (worldwide). Pre-order it here. A physical release will follow in the future; pre-order that here.
