Last year, Ripley Johnson of bands like Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo released his fifth solo album Garden Party under the name Rose City Band. Today, he’s announcing its follow-up, Sol Y Sombra. The lead single “Lights On The Way” is out now.

“With Rose City Band, I’m generally trying to make uplifting music, good time music,” Johnson explains. “This time I couldn’t avoid the shadow being more of a presence. There’s no getting away from it. The shadow is always there. So, I left it in.”

Sol Y Sombra features pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg, drummer John Jeffrey, and special guest performances by synthesist/vocalist Sanae Yamada. Check out the LP opener “Lights On The Way” below.
