L.S. Dunes – “Machines”

The emo/post-hardcore supergroup L.S. Dunes released their debut album Past Lives in 2022, and they’ve been cranking out a steady diet of one-off singles ever since then. The last of those songs was “Fatal Deluxe,” which just came out last month. Now, ahead of their performance at this weekend’s When We Were Young festival, L.S. Dunes have shared another track and announced Violet, their forthcoming sophomore LP.

Violet is coming early next year, and it doesn’t feature too many of the singles that L.S. Dunes have released as singles. Once again, the band recorded with producer Will Yip. The new L.S. Dunes track “Machines” is a soaring, melodic track with a few harsh screams thrown in there for good luck. Here’s what frontman Anthony Green, also of Circa Survive and Saosin, says about the LP:

I became so sick of playing the song where I sing, “Sorry that I wish that I was dead,” and I am so sorry I even wrote that song. I’m grateful that people resonate with it, but it just wasn’t helpful for me to sing that every night or to talk about that. So this time, I personally decided that I really wanted to make a record that says there is magic in the world. I wanted to celebrate music and the transformative power that it has to connect and inspire people. I wanted to make something that was in complete opposition to that song—something that says, I want to live.

Band member Frank Iero, also of My Chemical Romance, co-directed the video with David Brodsky. The clip has a lot of fun with the word “supergroup,” and it shows the band playing on a cheesy ’70s talk show and winning over a skeptical audience. Below, check out the video and the new album’s tracklist.
