The tour pairing tuneful and sensitive Swedish troubadour Loney Dear with sensitive and tuneful Chicagoan troubadour Andrew Bird has made its way to the west coast, stopping last night at Los Angeles's Orpheum Theatre. Bringing these two together makes for an inspired bill, and Emil (Loney) Svanagen's certainly benefited from playing his bedroom pop to a crowd like Bird's. (An a cappella song last night was met with pindrop silence, and the set a partial standing ovation.) But the sold-out crowd came for Andrew, who had done "Fitz and Dizzyspells" for Leno the night before and capped off his LA stay by receiving a marriage proposal last night. Just comes with the territory. Relive it via these photos by Andrew Youssef, or by taking a listen to the Andrew/Dear show at the 9:30 Club in D.C. streaming over at NPR.
