My first introduction to Sky Ferreira was as an actress in the movie Putty Hill where she played a young girl grappling with her brother’s drug overdose and the weight of having to grieve in front of other people. There’s a scene at some point in the movie where her character has a full-blown meltdown, screaming at the top of her lungs about how she just wants all of it to be over. Her performance is so powerful, the fourth wall never breaks. One of the best things about “Everything Is Embarrassing” is that it preserves that image of Ferreira as an artist who is committed to doing work with realistic emotions. What’s even better about this Krystal Klear remix is how much it is that Putty Hill scene’s pole — warm house, the kind of thing one might need after expurgating every bad feeling from her body. The movie is short, beautifully shot, and features a karaoke scene where she does Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” on Whitney Houston-levels of moving.
