The New York Post reports that the borough of Brooklyn is about to rename Palmetto Playground, on State Street in Brooklyn Heights, after Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, who died last year. Yauch was a Brooklyn Heights native, and the idea to rename the playground came from a blog post that became a Facebook campaign; it’s a rare case of local government officials looking at an internet thing and saying, in effect, “Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea.” Surviving Beasties Ad-Rock and Mike D are expected to join city officials at a renaming ceremony tomorrow.
