Zola Jesus – “Avalanche (Slow)”
Last year, Zola Jesus played a show at New York’s Guggenheim Museum. She was backed by the Mivos Quartet, and JG Thirwell, the O.G. industrial-music lunatic who still records as Foetus, arranged the strings. As it turns out, those arrangements weren’t just for the one show; Nika Roza Danilova also recorded studio versions of them, and her new album Versions collects those recordings. Below, you can hear the Versions version of “Avalanche,” a song from 2011’s Conatus, which is effectively a completely different song now, tender and awestruck where the original is cold and monolithic. Listen to it below.
Versions is out 8/20 on Sacred Bones.
