Watch Kendrick Lamar & Schoolboy Q Play Arsenio
In a strange turn of events, Arsenio Hall once again has a late-night TV show, and at least for now, it appears to be a hit. That’s good news for us, since it’s fun to think about and since it means we now have another source for late-night music performances to post on this here website. Once upon a time, Arsenio was the only late-night host willing to book rap guests with any consistency — check this ridiculous all-star throwdown from the final episode of his original run — and his new show appears to be following suit.
On last night’s episode, Arsenio welcomed the young West Coast rap king Kendrick Lamar and his Black Hippy comrade Schoolboy Q. With his kinda-overbearing live touring band, Kendrick did “m.A.A.d. City,” maybe the hardest song on his instant 2012 classic Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City. And he and Q also did “Collard Greens,” the very good single from Q’s forthcoming album Oxymoron. Kendrick also sat for an interview, and you might be reassured to learn that Arsenio’s interview style has not improved even a tiny bit in the last 20 years. Watch both performances and a clip from the interview below.
Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City is out now on TDE/Interscope, and Oxymoron is coming soon. Also, do yourself a favor and read this Alex Pappademas piece on Arsenio.
