Last night REM guitarist Peter Buck played Athens’ 40 Watt Club, and the hometown fans were treated to something special: Former R.E.M. bandmates Mike Mills and Bill Berry joined Buck for a performance of “(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville” from 1984’s Reckoning. Michael Stipe was reportedly in the crowd too, but he didn’t come on stage, so no dice on a full-blown reunion. Watch the rest of ‘em rock it out below.

Apparently these almost-reunions are becoming a semi-regular thing; all four band members performed at Buck’s wedding earlier this year, just not together. So who knows, if this keeps up maybe R.E.M. will end up on some festival playbills next year.
