HAIM – “Forever (Giorgio Moroder Remix)”
It’s been a fruitful season for mega-talented European dance music producers remixing HAIM’s Days Are Gone opener and breakthrough hit “Forever” — shouts to Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas and TCTS — and Euro dance greats don’t come greater than Giorgio Moroder. Now Daft Punk’s hero has unveiled his own take on the sister act’s signature track (OK, some of us ride for “The Wire“).
Moroder’s makeover is a different kind of effervescent than the original’s postmillennial Wilson Phillips steez. Undergirded by four-on-the-floor digital kickdrum and laced with orchestral swells and percolating synths, it frames Danielle Haim’s lead vocal as a duet with Moroder’s signature vocoder. That relentless percussive guitar part remains intact as the motor on this particular Sea-Doo.
Days Are Gone is out now via Columbia, and it placed mighty high on our list of 2013’s best albums.
