For example: this heart-melting video in which 4-year-old Jackson just starts bawling uncontrollably when “Say Something,” by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera, comes on his dad’s car radio. Dad repeatedly asks Jackson if he’s OK, if he’d prefer to hear a different song, but Jackson shakes off the old man; heartbreaking though it may be, he wants to hear this one till the end. It’s about as pure a reaction to music as you’ll ever witness, and if you’re reading Stereogum today, chances are you had experiences like this when you were 4 years old, too. This is how it starts.
