The Body – “Hail To Thee, Everlasting Pain” (Feat. The Haxan Cloak)
Last Halloween I saw experimental metal duo the Body play a packed show at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. It was a stunning show, and they delivered on the rep their live show has gained as they cycled through heavy riffing, abyssal drones, and collagist sound manipulation. So it makes sense to see them teaming up with drone/noise producer the Haxan Cloak (Bobby Krlic) whose 2013 album, Excavation, was as, if not more, terrifying than any metal album that year. Simply put, “Hail To Thee, Everlasting Pain,” the first single off the Body’s upcoming album, I Shall Die Here, provides one of the most symbiotic team ups I’ve heard since Run The Jewels (or if we’re keeping it in avant-metal terms: Boris and Merzbow). Over Krlic’s horror movie lurch are some of the band’s most blood-curdling screams before closing out with a final section that could pass for Sunn O))) playing with Wolf Eyes. If the thought of that sounds like a dream to you, “Hail To Thee, Everlasting Pain” will be your favorite song of the week, too.
I Shall Die Here is out 4/1 via RVNG Intl.
