WIFE – “Heart Is A Far Light”
James Kelly made his name as frontman for the incredible Irish post-black metal band Altar Of Plagues, but he dissolved that band last year, after their third LP, Teethed Glory And Injury, on which the band were working with more electronic and industrial elements than they had previously. Those changes were probably hinted at initially in 2012, when Kelly started making music as WIFE — which at that point was his electronic solo side project. Now, Kelly has completed work on WIFE’s debut album, What’s Between, which was produced by WIFE, the Haxan Cloak, Roly Porter, and lie. The first single from that album, “Heart Is A Far Light,” is an aching and hushed thing of stark minimalism and melody, draped in shadows, the few dimmed lights centered on Kelly’s ghostly and gorgeous voice. Listen.
What’s Between is out 6/10 via Tri-Angle.
