Ovlov – “The Great Crocodile” (Stereogum Premiere)
Last year, CT band Ovlov released their debut album, AM, and while there’s no word yet on a follow-up, they’ve just put out a new song for a split single with Philly’s Little Big League. Ovlov have a knack for cleverly connected song titles (AM had a pair of songs with Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis titled “Where’s My Dini?” and “There’s My Dini!”), and this new single, “The Great Crocodile,” plays out like the even-better sequel to their album’s closer, “The Great Alligator.” Like its predecessor, “Crocodile” stretches into the 6-minute range and lays out some noisy solos, but it’s also one of the best examples yet of the band’s blend of explosive guitar work with Steve Hartlett’s impassioned vocals, creating something emotionally gripping that you still want to headbang to. Listen it and Little Big League’s “Year Of The Sunhouse” below.
The Ovlov/Little Big League split is out in August via Tiny Engines. Pre-order here.
