Kathleen Hanna Wants To Work With Miley Cyrus
Last week, Miley Cyrus posted a couple of photos of Bikini Kill-era Kathleen Hanna on her Instagram account, giving them simplistic-but-accurate captions like “coolest ever” and “fuck yeah.” This proves, if nothing else, that Cyrus had the good sense to watch The Punk Singer on Netflix Instant, and that’s not nothing. And if Hanna were to exert some actual influence over Cyrus’s career going forward, the world would be a better place. That, it turns out, is exactly what Hanna wants to do. This morning on Twitter, Hanna reached out to Cyrus, writing, “Hey @MileyCyrus so sweet you posted pics of me…have an idea for an album that only you are daring enough to make .” We have yet to learn what that idea might be, but god knows Hanna would be a better influence than Wayne Coyne.
Here’s what Hanna said of Cyrus in an interview last fall:
“If [Miley Cyrus] says she’s a feminist, then who I am to stop her? I’m not the feminist police. I don’t get to determine that. I’m happy that young women are embracing that term, for whatever reason it means to them. Maybe for her it’s about freedom of sexuality and freedom of expression. For other people, it’s about ending oppression against everyone, not just women, but you’re starting from a woman’s perspective because that’s what you’re interested in.”
