R.I.P. Robert “Throb” Young
The Guardian reports that Robert “Throb” Young, former guitarist for the great Primal Scream, has passed away. Police found his body in his Sussex, England apartment on Tuesday. No cause of death has been reported, but police say no foul play is suspected. Young was 49.
Young joined Primal Scream not long after they formed in 1982. He played bass on their debut album, 1987’s Sonic Flower Groove, but he switched to guitar after the departure of guitarist Jim Beattie. He stayed with the band for a couple of decades, staying on board through multiple stylistic changes and playing on straight-up classics like Screamadelica, Vanishing Point, and XTRMNTR. He left the band in 2006, and frontman Bobby Gillespie has made vague comments in interviews about problems that he had in his personal life. Below, watch Young at work in Primal Scream’s “Rocks” video.
