Stream Perfume Genius Too Bright
The new Perfume Genius album Too Bright is the moment that Mike Hadreas moves away from stark, personal singer-songwriter music to something more grand and playful. Hadreas recorded the album in Bristol with Portishead’s Adrian Utley, and he uses the album to riff on the idea of the young gay man as a predatory force. In turn, his music has blossomed out and embraced sinister, operatic glam influences. It’s still as pretty and crystalline as ever, but now it’s something else, too. As you can probably guess from early singles “Queen” and “Grid” (and from their mind-boggling videos), it’s a hell of an album. And right now, you can stream the whole thing at NPR.
Too Bright is out 9/22 on Matador, and you can also check out our interview with Hadreas.
