BATHS – “Disorderly”
Will Wiesenfeld’s project Baths has undergone an incredible evolution over the years. Beginning as another bedroom-pop producer on the charming Cerulean, Baths shifted his sound considerably with last year’s Obsidian, a pitch-black synth-pop record that found his comparisons shift from FlyLo to Xiu Xiu. It was a creative breakthrough and a jumping-off point to an even more exciting direction. We already heard the Ocean Death EP earlier this year, and now Wiesenfeld has a new single to be released on the compilation EP What’s Good Los Angeles? in conjunction with Friends Of Friends and Vans that will also feature Jerome LOL, Dâm-Funk, Hodgy Beats, Problem, and Salva. “Disorderly” carries the same self-destructive tone and sexuality as Baths recent work, with a constant string of brilliant lyrics. “Come to me, I’m an annual holiday party, drink and be merry — and leave” is a line Matt Berninger must wish he wrote for the National, while “Forgot to thank you for your love, whatever your name was” is one that sounds like classic Baths, a distinction he’s completely earned. “Disorderly” finds him becoming more unique with every release (big and small), and it’s really, really exciting.
